Full description

Most of these files were created and maintained by the Overseas Trade Authority and the New South Wales Office for Trade Development and subsequently transferred to the Department of State Development.

The series includes briefing notes for the Premier and other ministers when meeting overseas officials; documents relating to the planning and conduct of overseas trade missions and exhibitions; minutes and papers of the Overseas Trade Authority and the Trade Development Board; signed originals of international trade agreements; drafts/redrafts of joint communiques; and correspondence concerning Commonwealth / State conferences and seminars conducted for New South Wales businesses relating to how to trade with particular countries.

It consists of both registered and unregistered files. Registered files were originally arranged alphabetically within broad subject groupings (commodities; government - state and Australian; companies, organisations and individuals; industries; administration). They were also given a single running number which seems unrelated to the subject groupings. Registered files were also arranged into active (A files), semi-active (S files) and dead (D files). Relatively little duplication of numbers occurred between A, S and D files so they have been sorted into one numerical sequence. Unregistered files have been included at the end of the numerical sequence.
