Full description

The Office of Trade Development appears to have been established in 1988 to assume the functions of the New South Wales Office for Trade Development, and the New South Wales Government Trade Development Board. The office was under the administration of the Minister for State Development and appears to have reported to the Department of State Development. (1)

The main function of the Office was to promote “the involvement of local enterprises in international trade by focusing on the development of international business capabilities, by participation in joint ventures, and through technology transfer and direct investment. “ (2) The Office also encouraged foreign investment in New South Wales, and provided services to local business which included marketing assistance, and information about trade opportunities. (3)

In 1989, the Office was abolished and replaced by the International Division of the Department of State Development. (4)
