Full description

The Egg Industry Act, 1983, assented to 4 May 1983 (1) and proclaimed on 1 July 1983 (2), constituted the New South Wales Egg Corporation. The Act defined the functions of the New South Wales Egg Corporation and the Poultry Farmers Licensing Committee. (3) The Corporation consisted of seven members appointed by the Governor, and was comprised of a Chairman, a Managing Director, four members to represent the producers, and a person nominated by the Minister. (4) The Corporation managed the marketing of all commercially produced eggs in New South Wales and overseas through product promotion and prices competition. They received, graded, stored and distributed the eggs, or where appropriate, appointed agents to undertake the functions. (5) The Egg Industry Act No.75, 1983 was repealed by the Egg Industry (Repeal and Deregulation) Act, 1989 (Act No.99, 1989) . This Act was assented to 8 August 1989 (6) and proclaimed on 12 August 1989, except for sections 12, 36, 37, 38, 42, and 86. (7) This Act provided for the dissolution of the New South Wales Egg Corporation, and the deregulation of the egg industry. The Act also enabled a reconstituted New South Wales Egg Corporation to trade in eggs and other products on a competitive basis until such time as it is sold or finally dissolved. (8) The new Corporation with all its fixed assets and commercial operation was put up for sale by public tender in February 1990 (9). Sections 36, 37 and 42 of the Egg Corporation (Repeal and Deregulation) Act 1989 were proclaimed on the 12 October 1990 (10). With the commencement of section 36, the New South Wales Egg Corporation was officially dissolved. Endnotes
