Full description

This data set composes of recordings made in the first deployment of portable seismometers for the SKIPPY project. The objective of the SKIPPY project was to map the three-dimensional structure beneath the Australian continent. The recordings were made between 1993 and 1996 using groups of portable broad band seismographs deployed across regions of Australia to record the seismic energy from distant earthquakes.
It was not possible to cover the whole continent at one time with the available hardware so the data was collected in stages, with the instruments moving between regions for each deployment. Each station includes a deployment mnemonic (SA, SB, SC, etc.) and a station number.

Significance statement

This collection is part of the first continental scale collection of seismological data for Australia.
