The recordings were made between 1993 and 1996 using groups of portable broad band seismographs deployed across regions of Australia to record the seismic energy from distant earthquakes. It was not possible to cover the whole continent at one time with the available hardware so the data was collected in stages, with the instruments moving between regions for each deployment.
