The Ronald Gordon Giovanelli Guide to Records documents and contextualises the records of Ronald Gordon Giovanelli, Chief of the CSIRO Division of Physics from 1958 to 1976. The records documented in the Guide comprise of 265 inventory items (mostly paper format files). The records are grouped into 18 series and cover Giovanelli's interest in both optical measurements and solar astronomy, including research papers, lecture notes, and records from his time at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and his involvement in various scientific societies. Specific topics covered include eclipses, solar variability and terrestrial phenomena, heat transfer, excitation and ionization of solar atoms, magnetic fields, and sunspot cycle and solar Magnetic cycle. The total collection occupies 435 linear cm of shelf space (or its equivalent). The Guide is the output of a research database. It was first published in paper format by the Australian Science Archives Project in 1989. An online version of the Guide was published by the Australian Science and Technology Heritage Centre in April 2004. The records were transferred to the Basser Library at the Australian Academy of Science (MS176). The collection was listed by Doug McCann and Gavan McCarthy.Data time period: 1989
