Full description

The Australian Science and Technology Heritage Centre in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Melbourne was established in May 1999 and continued the academic, research and heritage activities of its predecessor, the Australian Science Archives Project (ASAP). It also developed a broader research program in cultural informatics and humanities computing. These are areas of study that deal directly with how society copes with the flood of hyper-accessible information and the ever-increasing complexity of modern life. The Centre fostered the preservation, promotion and development of the heritage of Australian science, technology and medicine. Through the development of its software tools it reached a wide community interested in preserving and making accessible information from the past. The Centre became the eScholarship Research Centre 1 January 2007.
