Full description This project was established to document the involvement of the Australian Science Archives Project (ASAP) and subsequent organisations with the records of Ian Brown and his parents Gilbert and Marie Brown. The project documents the story of two collections - the records of Ian Brown (1917-1987), a physical chemist with the CSIRO who specialized in separation science, and those of his parents, Gilbert and Marie Brown. The records of Ian Brown (1917-1987), a physical chemist with the CSIRO who specialized in separation science, were transferred from his office at CSIRO and his home to the Australian Science Archives Project shortly after his death on 31 August 1987. They were held pending further additions from the family and a decision on their final destination. In the meantime the collection, as it stood, was boxed and arranged by Victor Christov, a colleague of Brown and an archives student at the Melbourne College of Advanced Education. After deciding not to undertake detailed work on the collection, a box list was compiled and the records transferred to the Basser Library in early March 1989. In September 2000 Ian Brown's son, contacted the Australian Science and Technology Heritage Centre about further records relating to his father, and also to his grandparents, Gilbert and Marie Brown. Gavan McCarthy surveyed the records in Richard Brown's home in December 2000 and transferred the records to the Australian Science and Technology Heritage Centre. Archival arrangement and description, and imaging of the 'Records of Brown Family" were done by staff at the Centre and a Guide to the collection published on the Centre website. The 'Records of Brown Family' are held by the State Library of Victoria.
