This series is one bound volume detailing proposed new extensions to railways and tramways submitted to the Public Works Commission for approval. A number of entries are typed, with most hand-written. Resultant decisions by the Public Works Committee are noted against the appropriate page in red. Information dates from 1910 when the railway construction function was administered by the Public Works Department. There is an alphabetical index at the front of the volume.

Custody History
From 1955 until 2000 the State Rail Authority of New South Wales maintained an in house archive consisting of the archival records of the Authority, its predecessor agencies and the private railway companies taken over by the government. The date ranges of the records were from 1849 until 2000.
