These files, which contain papers dating from 1883, reflect early fluctuations of administrative units and records systems, but maintain a functional consistency. They contain a wide variety of information on the provision of sewerage services to country towns throughout the state; proposals, investigations; reports; surveys; equipment; effluent analyses; contracts and specifications for treatment works and reticulation; representations and delegations; finance and capital debt; unemployment relief; resumptions and gazettals; trade waste; inspections; and installations; stormwater drainage works.

To 1936 the files bear an "S" prefix. In 1937 the "SGE" prefix was adopted.
