Full description

The Sewerage Branch was formed on 1 November 1976 when the Water Supply and Sewerage Branch [II] was split into the Water Supply Branch and the Sewerage Branch. (1)

The Sewerage Branch was part of the Civil Engineering Division. It reported to the Deputy Chief Engineer, Works. (2)

The objective of the Sewerage Branch was 'to serve the State effectively as a service engineering organization in the field of sewerage by ensuring optimum technical quality and efficiency in the design and operation of country sewerage works'. Work of the Branch included investigations, pre-construction and construction for country sewerage schemes, research and development, operation and training, surveys of treatment and trade wastes, and plumbing and drainage matters. Major projects included the Gosford Regional Sewerage Scheme and the Wyong Sewerage Scheme. (3)

Following a review  the Water Supply and Wastewater Engineering Branches were again combined by 30 July 1989 to form the Water and Sewerage Branch. (4)
