Full description

The Victorian College of the Arts, within the Faculty of VCA and MCM at the University of Melbourne, is situated at the University’s Southbank Campus on the land occupied by over one thousand generations of Australia’s first people. The VCA encompasses a broad community of artists: visual artists and writers, choreographers, musicians, designers, performers, actors, filmmakers, dancers and many more, all committed to the production of new artistic work. We are committed to providing a deep and transformative learning experience in pursuit of artistic excellence, innovation and an absorbing education.

Within the VCA sits the School of Film and Television. The School was the first in Australia to offer dedicated degrees in film production, originating at the Swinburne Institute of Technology in 1966 and transferring to the VCA in 1992. Our practice-based ethos puts creativity and storytelling at the heart of everything we do. The School trains directors, producers and screenwriters, and has launched the careers of many acclaimed Australian filmmakers. Film and Television alumni work is screened and awarded at top international and national film festivals. Alumni work broadly across the film and television industries, providing creative and leadership roles in the production of many screen formats known and appreciated by Australian and international audiences.
