This study compared the health of the families of personnel who had deployed to Timor-Leste with that of families of personnel who had not deployed to Timor-Leste. It also looked at risk and protective factors associated with the health of all such families. The study was a retrospective, cross-sectional survey of ADF members and their families that examined the physical, mental, and family health impacts on the partners and children from the member’s deployment. A sample of 7749 current and ex-serving ADF members who were in a relationship or separated was selected. Approximately half had deployed to Timor-Leste (N=3866), while the other half had not (N=3883). If the ADF member provided consent, partners were invited to participate. A total of 2853 ADF members and 1332 partners responded. Questions on the children were answered by the partner.
