The first volume shows registration number, date, seaman's name, ship, description, seaman's signature, and witness's remarks (concerning character).

Other volumes record: date of entry; registration number; name of seaman; capacity; ship in which last served; description (of ship); name of master; date of release from last ship; nature of release (whether paid in full or forfeit); port of registry; place of birth; description or nature of voyage (colonial, intercolonial or foreign); report of conduct, character or qualifications; master's declination to comment on conduct, character or qualifications (reasons for); and name of witness.
