Full description This project was established to document the involvement of the Australian Science Archives Project (ASAP) and subsequent organisations with records of Sir Frank Macfarlane Burnet, medical scientist and Nobel Laureate. Due to the high use of the collection and the adhoc transfer of new materials this project remains active. Sir Macfarlane Burnet (1899 - 1985) was approached in March 1985 to find out what intentions he had for his personal papers. He expressed the wish that those papers in his possession and any other papers recovered should be housed with the University of Melbourne Archives. This collection is a major archival source for the history of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute for Medical Research up to 1965. A complete set of Sir Macfarlane's publications and reprints up to 1975 plus a small selection of manuscripts is housed in the Basser Library of the Australian Academy of Science.

Data time period: 06 03 1985
