Senior Lecturer – School of Human Life Sciences
Post-doctoral Career: His PhD was awarded in 2001 from the University of Queensland. He immediately joined the IBD genetics laboratory headed by Dr Graham Radford-Smith where he worked for the next 2 years. His tenure yielded 2 papers, with the first description of CCRδ32 polymorphism in IBD cited over 70 times. His next post-doctoral work in mucosal immunology area was conducted at Cedars-Sinai IBD cntre and UCLA, USA where he was trained in multiple mouse models of IBD. From this position he produced 7 papers, with one paper (Am J Physiol) being cited over 370 times. Upon his return to Australia, he worked with Prof. Michael McGukin and Prof. Tim Florin as Senior Research Officer at the Mater Medical Research Institute (MMRI, now TRI, Brisbane). During this time he was chief investigator on 3 NHMRC (one as CIA, 2 as CIB/E) and 1 Qld Cancer Fund applications (total funding $1.3 million & 9 research papers). In 2008, his ground breaking work placed ER stress at the centre of the pathogenesis of IBD (First authored PLoS Medicine IF~17 paper; 333 citations so far).Independent career: Since 2011, Dr Eri has established an independent laboratory at UTAS. Even as a 50:30:20 academic at UTAS, he has maintained a very productive research career as evidenced by publications (26 ~50% as last author), grants (6~ $300,000) and graduate students (5, all with scholarship)
