This series consists of one box-file of materials on the history of the school. This file contains:

The Junction School Centenary 1860-1960. Knight Bros. Printery, Mayfield, for The Junction Public School, 1960. (16pp, booklet)

Sixty-six black and white photographs (including duplicates), some marked for cropping for newspaper use. Attached to one is a “With Compliments” slip from the Chief of Staff of the Newcastle “Sun” newspaper. These photographs are listed below.

A. Dated photographs –

1. 3A Boys class photograph, 1946

2. Retirement of Roy Davis, Deputy Headmaster, 1953 (group photograph: Don Robinson, ??, ??, Len Hindmarsh, Joe Delaney, Roy Davis, Gordon Humphries, Les Maguire [Headmaster], ??, Wal Young)

3. Visit of H.E. the Governor, Sir John Northcott, May, 1955 (children: Lee Jensen, Ian Savage, Francis Walls).

4. School Centenary Celebrations, 1960 –

a. Staff and official guests (Mrs McDougall, Miss McDonald, Miss Inspector O’Donnell, Staff Inspector J.R. McQualter, Mrs Watt, Inspector B.G. Watt, Mr Frank Purdue).

b. Mrs M.E. Quinn (teacher), Mrs L. Brown (President, school canteen) and pupils with Centenary Cake prior to ceremonies. (Some pupil identifications on back).

c. Two oldest pupils, Mrs Lund (89) and Mr Ben Randall (87), cut the cake (2 copies).

d. Former pupil Sir Frederick and Lady Stewart with Mr L. Maguire, Headmaster.

e. Gymnastics display (4 photographs inc. 1 duplicate)

f. Folkdancing display (?)

g. Children in formation, making shape of school badge (2 photographs)

h. Children singing (3 photographs inc. 1 duplicate)

j. Girls’ Highland Dancing display.

k. Presentation of sports pennant (swimming?) (this photograph apparently dates to 1960 but may have been taken on another occasion during the year). Includes Mr L. Maguire, Headmaster.

5. Musical performance in City Hall, 1963 –

a. School choir; Miss Gay Martin conducting, Mrs Scott as accompanist on piano.

b. School recorder group; Miss Gay Martin conducting, Mrs Scott as accompanist on piano.

6. Walhallow visit, 03/04/1973 – two girls’ dept. pupils posing with apple.


B. Undated photographs with accompanying information –

1. Percussion lesson: Mr C. Neil conducts to a record played by Mrs Neil.

2. Rosalie Osland (1st) of The Junction and David Wilson (2nd) of Merewether Public School, winners in the Rotary Club Road Safety Committee Poster awards, with Sub-committee Chairman W. Penfold and Rotary Club President E. Armstrong.

3. “Schoolboys Make Recordings,” pupils with recording equipment, two photographs marked for newspaper use –

1. Informal group of four Girls’ Department pupils dressed for Highland Dancing.

2. Twenty-six small photographs (most approx. 6cm by 6cm), interior and exterior views of the school, dates probably c.1945 – c.1965.
