Full description

This series is the Bush Fire Act files for the Department of Local Government.

Counties, municipalities and shires were required to submit estimates of expenditure on bush fire control to the Department of Local Government under the Bush Fire Act 1949 (Act No.31, 1949). Section 33 of the Bush Fire Act states that 'Every council and every officer thereof shall, when so required by the Minister for Local Government, furnish him with all such documents, papers and information as he may require to determine the contribution of the council.' (1)

These files consist of the estimates, supply of equipment, applications for reimbursement, statement of accounts and related correspondence.

The files are arranged first by chronological period then in alphabetical order by the name of the council.
