These papers fall into two groups. Firstly, there are the instructions regarding the possible evacuation of Newcastle and Stockton Mental Hospitals made in July 1939 together with memoranda of reconnaissance made in 1939 and 1942. Secondly, there are the much more voluminous papers regarding the evacuation of Kenmore Hospital in 1942 (for use by the military authorities) and its re-occupation by the State between 1946 and 1948.
