This series consists mainly of reports by H.H. Dumbrell, shipwright surveyor and inspector, on inspections carried out on various vessels recommending necessary repairs where applicable and the nature of the repairs to be undertaken prior to the issuing of certificates of seaworthiness.

Also included are reports on repairs necessary to other structures such as the Sailors' Home, Newcastle, the Lee Wharf extension and erection and maintenance of beacons and lights.

In addition there are a few letters and memoranda received.
