Edward J. O'Grady was appointed the State's first Commissioner for Legal Aid Services on 1 July 1974, with responsibility for co-ordinating the New South Wales Government's aid programmes with other agencies - State, Commonwealth and non-government - engaged in the provision of legal aid, and for implementing the Government's own programmes.These records relate to the establishment of a Legal Aid Commission, Commonwealth/State negotiations, a conveyance scheme, a Court of Petty Sessions scheme, Minsec trial, and a draft for a booklet. They also include general correspondence.
