This series contains the official business papers and minutes for Eastern Capital City Regional Council and Palerang Council. The Council was renamed Palerang Council in December 2004.
These minute books were created under s.107 and 108 of the Municipalities Act of 1867 (Act No.12a, 1867) which was assented to on 23 December 1867, and subsequent legislation.
The General meetings were called for Ordinary business and were recurrent meetings prescribed by legislation to be held at regular intervals. Special meetings could be called for Extraordinary business by the mayor or by two councillors and dealt with a specific issue. Reports were generally also tabled at these meetings as well as at the general meeting relating to the subject. (1)
The minutes document the decisions made by the Council at its meeting. They usually include the following sections: opening, apologies, disclosures of pecuniary interest, confirmation of minutes, business arising from the minutes, questions from the gallery, mayoral report and minutes, motions, items for determination and information, committee reports and recommendations, delegates reports, responses to questions, matters if notice, questions for next meeting, and closure.
