Full description
These files were kept for prisoners serving a term of imprisonment at Goulburn Gaol, and are arranged by the month and year on which the prisoner was discharged. The contents of the files vary according to the seriousness of the crime committed. All files contain a warrant detailing the crime, name of judge before whom the case was heard, and the sentence, and also, a description sheet consisting of: name; address; birthplace; occupation; physical description of prisoner; nearest relative; previous convictions; and previous employer. The files relating to prisoners charged with a serious crime often contain correspondence; medical and psychiatric reports, applications for parole and, occasionally, newspaper clippings.These files represent a ten percent (10%) sample of the original quantity of these records.
