Full description

The Local Government Act, 1919 required that, if subdivision of land was desired, an application accompanied by plans and specifications was to be submitted to Council for approval. The Town Clerk certified the subdivision if satisfied that all requirements (other than the registration of plans) had been met.

When determining whether to certify an application, the Town Clerk considered the shape and size of the land parcels, the road frontage to each section, the location and access to present and future services; means of access to each land parcel, whether the district was currently or potentially residential; number of houses to the acre allowed; planned park and recreation areas, and drainage.
