This series comprises records that were used by the Royal Commission into the former Chelmsford Hospital and Mental Health Services in New South Wales [known as the Chelmsford Royal Commission].

The 42/- series was created by Commission staff to control records according to the source of the records. The records were boxed using the numbering system below and box lists and items were controlled by these numbers. The series used an allocation of stroke numbers up to 42. Not all numbers were used; there were no records attached to numbers 11, 14, 21, and 25.
