Full description
On 1 July 2023, the Department of Premier and Cabinet was split into Premier’s Department [III] and Cabinet Office [II]. The following parts of the Department of Premier and Cabinet were transferred to the Cabinet Office: (a) Office of General Counsel, (b) Policy Group (excluding WestInvest, Emergency Management branch, Women NSW, and Flood Inquiry Project Management Office), (c) the Shaping Futures branch of the Community Engagement Group. (1)
The Cabinet Office drove effective Cabinet decision making by ensuring that matters submitted for consideration are submitted correctly in line with government priorities and are of the highest quality. The Cabinet Office was made up of 3 groups: Office of General Counsel; Social Policy and National Reform; and Economic and Environmental Policy. The office:
- Provided expert and independent policy and legal advice to the Premier and Cabinet, including National Cabinet in relation to state and Commonwealth issues.
- Provided final review and advice to the Premier on all proposals coming to Cabinet from agencies to ensure alignment to government priorities.
- Identified whole of government priorities and ensuring alignment across all portfolios.
- Worked with the Premier’s Department and Treasury to ensure that proposals for Cabinet are fully developed.
- Provided governance and legal services to The Cabinet Office and Premier’s Department. (2)
