These are records, including exhibits and transcripts from the enquiry held under s.475 of the Crimes Act 1900 to inquire into the conviction, on 2 November 1973, of Johann Ernst Siegfried Pohl for the murder of his wife. Mr Justice McInerney of the Supreme Court was appointed in July 1991 to conduct the inquiry, which sat between 16 December 1991 and 23 March 1992.
The exhibits include material related to procedural matters and the setting-up of the inquiry; papers relating to Pohl during the time he was imprisoned; scientific evidence relating to, and transcripts of interviews with, Roger Bawden who, in September 1990, confessed to the crime; statements of witnesses; photographs of the scene of the crime; video tape copies of television news reports about, and interviews with, Bawden; a mounted map of Canberra; a copy of the 1973 brief of evidence and scientific notes from the original brief; copies of documents relating to the trial and Pohl's appeal; and the original documentary exhibits of the trial.
