The New South Wales Bicentennial Council was responsible for its activities to both the Australian Bicentennial Authority, which had been established under a Commonwealth Act, and to the New South Wales State Government.

This series consists of files of material relating to Bicentennial events in various local government areas which were endorsed by the New South Wales Bicentennial Council. The material was supplied by local Bicentennial Community Committees in response to soliciting letters sent by the Council between March and April 1988.

The files contain formal reports from the Bicentennial Community Committees, brochures, calendars, exhibition catalogues, competition results, invitations, newsletters, newspaper cuttings, photographs, posters, programmes and sample commemorative items such as certificates, medals and flags.
