This series contains records relating to applications for registration and/or accreditation of non-government schools in New South Wales.

Registration provides a school with a licence to operate, whereas accreditation authorises a school to nominate candidates for the award of the Record of School Achievement (formerly the School Certificate) and/or the Higher School Certificate. (1)

The series includes both successful and unsuccessful applications.

The files are arranged in numerical order. The contents of the files vary, but may include:

  • the application for registration and/or accreditation, including information on the school's purpose, curriculum and buildings/facilities
  • details of the proprietor and principal of the school, as well as a list of teachers and their qualifications
  • inspection reports and investigation reports
  • correspondence between the agency and the schools regarding registration
  • a copy of the signed and approved registration certificate
