Full description

This series of files contain information relating to irrigation farms within the No. 1 Mirrool Irrigation Area, in the Griffith region. Each file may contain an application to acquire land, transfer of land papers, requests for farming advice from the Commission, capital value determinations, a compensation claim, insurance, a reduction of debt application, complaints, and any other correspondence farmers may have had with the Water Conservation and Irrigation Commission regarding their irrigation farms.

The early part of the series is arranged by Farm Number. Each block of land in the No. 1 Mirrool Irrigation Area was given a single number which was used to differentiate one block from another on maps, in correspondence with the Commission, and was even used as the farm occupiers' address. The later part of the series, from 1937, is arranged by File Number but the Farm Number is still noted in the item title.  Some files have no file number.

The files were received in 2011 as estrays from Murrumbidgee Irrigation Limited which had held the files since 1999 when the NSW Government relinquished ownership of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area and its Districts.
