From 1856 to 1904 Parliamentary papers were published in the Journals of the Minutes of Proceedings of the Legislative Council.

From 1904-2006 tabled papers presented to either House of the Parliament of New South Wales and ordered to be printed were published in the Joint Volumes of Parliamentary Papers.

The Joint Volumes were discontinued in 2006 because documents such as annual reports, which historically could only be accessed in the Parliamentary Papers Series, are now available on the Internet. While papers ordered to be printed continue to be allocated a number in the Parliamentary Papers series, the papers themselves are no longer distributed as bound volumes.
