This series consists of the Business Paper Books of the Hunter District Water Supply and Sewerage Board and its successor, the Hunter District Water Board, for the period from 1926 until 1974 (the word “rough” is dropped from the title of the series after 1953). The series, which includes 96 volumes, constitutes a record of the proceedings at each meeting of the Board, comparable to a combination of Minutes and Agenda. Until November, 1939 (Volume 31), typescript lists of business items for each meeting, including the recommendations of the President or the submitting Committee, are pasted onto the verso pages, with annotations on the facing recto pages recording their reception by the Board and any action resolved upon. Thereafter the typescripts are pasted to both facing pages, and annotations, where they occur, appear on the typescript.

Volumes 1-8 are quarter-leather-bound large octavo volumes, the strain on their binding caused by the bulk of the paste-ins having been relieved by the expedient of cutting out a block of leaves from the back of each volume. Volumes 9 and 10 are quarter-leather-bound quarto, the strain of the paste-ins similarly relieved by cutting out every second leaf. The remainder of the series consists of large quarto cuttings books, quarter-leather-bound until Volume 66, cloth-bound thereafter. The volumes are numbered consecutively 1-95; the number 45 appears twice.
