Full description

This series consists of bound volumes of minutes of the Railway Service Superannuation Board. The contents of early volumes were handwritten (Vols. 1 - 8), while those of later volumes (Vols. 9 - 27) were typed, with occasional handwritten notes inserted. Pages within volumes are numbered. The last minutes (Item 28, March to May 1990) are held in a manilla folder.

The minutes document decisions regarding superannuation entitlements for railway services employees and give detailed information about injuries sustained while working and other medical conditions necessitating retirement. The following information is also recorded : name ; position ; branch ; age ; length of service and nature of infirmity.

The minutes of the Board's May 1990 meeting state that this would be the Board's last meeting because the responsibilities of the Railway Service Superannuation Board were to be transferred to the State Authorities Superannuation Board on 1 June 1990.

Custody History

From 1955 until 2000 the State Rail Authority of New South Wales maintained an ‘in house archives’ consisting of the archival records of the Authority, its predecessor agencies and the private railway companies taken over by the government. The date ranges of the records were from 1849 until 2000. When the decision was made to close the ‘State Rail Archives’ the parts of the collection that were required as State archives were transferred to the State Records Authority of NSW. Those record series were incorporated into the State Records series system of archives control and were re-numbered.

This series was formerly part of the State Rail Archives collection where it was identified as series R344. It may have been viewed in the State Rail Archives as series R344 and could have been previously cited as such in notes by researchers at State Rail Archives or in publications or unpublished works.
