This series consists of the master reference set of Agenda and associated documents for the Planning and Resources Committee of Senate of the University of Newcastle. In addition to Agenda, it includes copies of correspondence received, of reports, submissions and Minutes of previous meetings.

The Planning and Resources Committee was set up in 1988 as the successor to the Planning Committee of Senate. Meetings of the Committee were at first held irregularly, but from the beginning of 1990 they normally took place at fortnightly intervals.
The Planning and Resources Committee was responsible for recommending particular courses of future development for the University, for developing criteria by which to assign priority to competing claims on the University's resources (which included physical space, staff, financial resources and such central services as the Library and computing services), and for assisting the production of the University's triennial submissions for funding. Financial matters were dealt with by a Budget Sub-Committee. All of these functions will be found dealt with in this series.
