This series consists of a single volume of typed, bound minutes. The Interim Council met monthly during the period September, 1989 - August, 1990, the period when the amalgamation of the University and the Hunter Institute of Higher Education was being implemented. Its role was to oversee the process of amalgamation, and to ensure that the normal functions of the University Council with regard to planning, appointments, course and degree offerings and the awarding of degrees were carried out until the University Council established by the University of Newcastle Act, 1989, could be constituted and assume its responsibilities for these functions.
