This series consists of the originals of the Business Papers prepared for each meeting of the Health Services Advisory Committee, each set consisting of a cover sheet giving the date of the meeting and an index to the contents of the business paper, plus these contents themselves, normally a mixture of original correspondence and photocopies, with minutes of the meetings of subordinate committees and reports, all set in order and paginated in pencil.

The Health Services Advisory Committee was set up "to monitor matters related to patient care and quality control measures" at Wallsend District Hospital on behalf of the Greater Newcastle Area Health Service (subsequently subsumed into the Hunter Area Health Service). It went through several changes of name during the four-and-a-half years of its existence, being successively the Health Services Advisory Committee, the Health Advisory Committee and the Health Care Review Committee, and was then briefly known as the Patient Care Review Committee (the name appearing on the outside of the several folders in which these papers are held), before reverting to Health Care Review Committee and finally to its original name, the Health Services Advisory Committee.
