Full description
Letters to Principal Under Secretary, Chief Secretary's Office, Sydney, are recorded. These are either weekly reports on the girls' health, behaviour and number; or reports on particular people or events, such as a girl about to be apprenticed or an outbreak of some disease.
After 21 September 1870, letters to other officials and to private citizens are recorded. These range from furniture requisitions to complaints about the treatment of apprentices. At the front of Vol. 6 is a series of letters of advice to girls apprenticed out, an innovation of Superintendent Dryhurst.
