These registers constitute a daily return of piles driven for the construction of new wharves. Each pile is numerically and diagrammatically identified on each page and progress on driving is recorded in columns detailing date, length pitched, length cut off, net length, below ground, above ground, description of piles and remarks.

The volumes also contain additional information on weight of monkey, drop, contract length, deduction and addition, depth driven by last three blows, and, certification as to the accuracy of the information.
