Full description
Harbours and Rivers: Maps and plans NRS-12444
This series comprises maps and plans of ports, rivers and coastlines used in the administration of harbours and river navigation. The series includes maps of the Naval Station at Garden Island, Port Jackson, Sydney Cove, Darling Harbour and Woolloomooloo. It also includes maps and plans not directly related to coastal or river navigation, such as plans of Trial Bay Prison and the Nautical School Ship “Sobraon”.
Many of the plans are signed by the Chief Engineer, including Edwin Orpen Moriarty, who served as Engineer in Chief for Harbours and Rivers in the Department of Lands and Public Works from 10 October 1858.(1) Plans are also labelled with “HR” control numbers or stamped with the Public Works Department Harbours and Rivers Branch plan room stamp.
Some maps and plans dated before the 1850s appear to have been created by earlier agencies, including the Surveyor General.
(SR Plan Nos. 1068–1417, 1541–1572, 2095–2099, 2103–2109, 2160–2161; X1076–X1083). 399 maps/plans.
