The volume appears to a continuation of the Female Orphan School Admission books, 1817-32 (4/350-51). The paper used in the volume is watermarked 1848 although the entries date retrospectively from 1827. It is possible that the volume was used for a short period at the Female Orphan School before being used at the Protestant Orphan School (1850 to 1886) where it continued to be used only for girls.

The volume gives the following information: name, age, date of admission, date of leaving the institution, parents' names, and remarks. The entries are arranged alphabetically by the first letter of the surname and then chronologically by date of admission.

There is an index in the front of the volume; however, the A to D Section is missing.
