These posters were designed to advertise the "Great Plate Auction" which was held on 22 November 1983, at the Sydney Entertainment Centre, by Associated Auctioneers Pty Ltd acting under instructions from the Department of Motor Transport.

The featured items at this unique auction were 75 "historic" number plates, 15 distinctive number plates and 1,400 memento number plates (there were altogether 1,490 original-series number plates available).
