This series consists of selected files relating to policy matters, reports, reviews, minutes and surveys, including correspondence relating to applications for cultural grants, scholarships, fellowships, financial assistance, subsidies, funding, and capital expenditure from the area of support of cultural activities.

Institutions and organisations covered by the files include the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust, State Library, Archives Authority of New South Wales, Sydney Opera House, Australian Museum, New South Wales Film Council, Arts Council of Australia, Sydney Observatory, Museum of Applied Arts and Science, State Conservatorium of Music, National Trust of Australia, various dance and theatre companies, and other cultural organisations and groups.

Files include a representative selection of successful cultural grant applications of a minor nature, and a selective sample of unsuccessful grant applications. Early material in the files relates to a variety of matters affecting the long-existing cultural institutions of NSW such as the Public Library and the Australian Museum.
