Full description

Create NSW was established on 1 April 2017 by administrative decision when Arts NSW was combined with Screen NSW. (1)

On 1 April 2017 the persons employed in the Department of Justice who were principally involved in the administration of legislation allocated to the Minister for the Arts (including the provision of support for the portfolio responsibilities of the Minister for the Arts) were transferred to the Department of Planning and Environment. (2)

From 1 July 2019 the persons employed in the Department of Planning and Environment who were principally involved in the administration of legislation allocated to the Special Minister of State, Minister for the Public Service, Employee Relations, Aboriginal Affairs, and the Arts (including the provision of support for the portfolio responsibilities of that Minister) were transferred to the Department of Premier and Cabinet. (3)

At May 2020 Create NSW was a division of the Department of Premier and Cabinet reporting to the Deputy Director, Community Engagement. Its structure comprised: Create Partnerships and Policy; Create Operations, Investment and Governance; and Screen NSW. Create NSW was a related division to Create NSW Infrastructure which comprised four Directors of Create Infrastructure and one Director of Cultural Infrastructure. (4)

From 1 April 2022 those staff in Create NSW and Create Infrastructure in the Department of Premier and Cabinet were transferred to the newly formed Department of Enterprise, Investment and Trade. (5) From 1 April 2022, Create NSW formed part of the Arts, Sport and Tourism Group (6) within the Department of Enterprise, Investment and Trade. (7)

Create NSW worked to develop and sustain the arts, culture and screen sectors, which are built upon the ambitions of excellence, access and strength, and which reflect and support the diverse communities across NSW. (8)
