Full description

These volumes record details of the earnings of those employed at the Rothbury Colliery during its operation by the State.

There are columns for the recording of the following information for each employee: a running number, name, occupation, hours worked, pay rate, amount earned, deductions (e.g. quarters, medical, canteen, fares, crib tins, pay offs), amount due, and remarks (e.g. paid). The running number sometimes appears in the remarks column. Not all columns are necessarily used.

The journals are arranged by pay period so are basically chronological. These periods, numbered 1 to 15, date from 13 December 1929 to 18 June 1930. The details of a small number of workers employed up until 8 July 1930 are also recorded.

Cook staff, waiters and certain other staff are listed in separate volumes from those dealing with mine workers.

Three of the volumes are labelled as Books 1 to 3 of "Camp Pay 1". These cover the period of Pay 1 (13-18 December 1929) and include employees listed in the first volume of the series, though the information differs. These journals are arranged in alphabetical divisions with a small number of additional entries inserted at the end.
