The New South Wales Film Corporation was established as a Statutory Body under section 4 of the New South Wales Film Corporation Act, 1977 which was proclaimed to commence on 1 July 1977 . (1) The Act provided for the Corporation to comprise between three and five directors. One of whom was the Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation and the other appointed by the Governor. The initial three directors were appointed on 1 July 1977. (2) The Main functions of the Corporation under the Section 11 of the Act were:
(a) to make, promote, distribute and exhibit films and, in particular, to have the sole responsibility for the making, promotion, distribution and exhibition of short films and documentary films for on behalf of any department of the Government or any statutory body representing the Crown;
(b) to encourage and assist in, whether by the provision of financial assistance or by other means, the making, promotion, distribution and exhibition of films;
(c)to encourage, whether by the provision of financial assistance or by other means, the proper keeping of films in archives in Australia;
(d) to advice the Minister with respect to any matter relating to the making promotion, distribution and exhibition of films;
(e) where the Minister so requests, to carry out research or an investigation into any matter relating to the making, promotion, distribution and exhibition of films and to report the findings resulting from the research or investigation to the Minister;
(3) Under the Corporation’s administration the film industry became commercially viable. The Corporation invested in projects as a minor (less than 50%) or major (more than 50%) investment. The Corporation endeavoured to secure private sector investment in the film production industry. All films and video projects administered by the Corporation were placed with industry and it was not itself engaged in production. (4) The New South Wales Film Corporation Act 1977 in 1988 and the New South Wales Film Corporation was dissolved by the Film Industry Act, 1988 (Act No. 18, 1988) . All of the functions of the Corporation were taken over by the newly established New South Wales Film and Television Office. (5) FOOTNOTES:
