Full description
This series consists of video and audio tapes and films for educational and training purposes which were produced co-operatively by the NSW Department of Public Health and the NSW Film and Television Office.
The series includes both master and copy versions of productions which were contracted out to commercial production companies to script, shoot and edit.
Productions created in the 1970s and 1980s used 16mm [millimetre] film as well as a variety of video and audio magnetic tape formats.
The formats comprise of 1-inch videotape, U-matic, Betacam SP and VHS tapes. Audio files consist of DAT (Digital Audio Tape) and audio cassettes. There are also floppy disks with training and production notes.
The films encompass a range of topics which include ageing, neonatal health, pathology, programs to stop smoking, cancer therapy, post-traumatic amnesia, youth issues, disability awareness, immunisation, Aboriginal health and mental health.
A proportion of the tapes consist of captioned video for the hard of hearing and subtitled video in various languages in order to communicate health messages to the wider community.
The series contains ancillary material such as Edit Decision Lists (EDLs), scripts and training guidelines, and release forms, contracts and licences for locations, actors and music.
In many instances all the material related to a specific production has been given a unique ‘VT’ number in order to keep all pre and post-production assets together.
