The Michael James Denham White Guide to Records documents and contextualises the records of Michael James Denham White, Professor of Zoology 1958-1964 and then Professor of Genetics 1964-1975 at University of Melbourne. The archival materials documenting the life and work of M.J.D. White are divided into two groups. The first is based on his insect collection and cytology microscope slides and includes the relevant diaries, notebooks and maps that document the collection of insect specimens. These materials are lodged at the National Insect Collection, CSIRO Division of Entomology, Black Mountain, Canberra, and a copy of the list, with a detailed description of the diaries, compiled by the Australian Science Archives Project, is to be found in Series 11 of this guide. All other materials comprising correspondence, publications, photographs, slides, working files and draft manuscripts have been deposited with the University of Melbourne Archives. The collections consists of 668 inventory items, mostly paper files, grouped into 11 series. The total collection occupies 358 linear cm. The Guide is the output of a research database. It was originally produced in paper form in 1989 by the Australian Science Archives Project. It was published online by the Australian Science and Technology Heritage Centre in 2004. The collection is housed in 3,344 files, binders or boxes. The collection was listed by Gavan McCarthy and Oscar Manhal, index by Doug McCann.Data time period: 1989
