Long-period magnetotelluric time series data that measure natural magnetic and electric field variations at Earth’s surface were collected at 60 locations spaced throughout Tasmania. This time series dataset was collected as a part of the national Australian Lithospheric Architecture Magnetotelluric Project (AusLAMP), a decade-long national MT survey jointly coordinated between government and research organisations through the collaboration of AuScope, Geoscience Australia (GA), state and territory geoscience agencies, universities and other research organisations. The Tasmanian AusLAMP dataset was acquired through co-investment by AuScope, MRT, GA, the Universities of Tasmania and Adelaide and used AuScope funded Earth Data Logger instruments. This dataset represents Level 0 concatenated ASCII time series data presented per day. It includes data from Earth Data Logger sites from the main island of Tasmania plus Flinders Island (but not King Island).Credit
The Australian Lithospheric Architecture Magnetotelluric Project (AusLAMP) project is a collaboration between Geoscience Australia, the Geological Surveys of each State and the Northern Territory, AuScope, universities, and other research organisations (https://www.ga.gov.au/about/projects/resources/auslamp).The Geophysics 2030 project received co-investment from AuScope and the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) to support the data curation at the National Computational Infrastructure (NCI Australia) (https://doi.org/10.47486/XN002). AuScope, the ARDC and NCI Australia are enabled by the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS).
Lineage
Data principally acquired and processed by Thomas Ostersen as part of his PhD research undertaken at the University of Tasmania, sponsored by Mineral Resources Tasmania, Geoscience Australia, the University of Adelaide and AuScope. Full details can be found in his thesis 'Geoelectric Structure of the Tasmanian Lithosphere from Multi-Scale Magnetotelluric Data' (http://dx.doi.org/10.25959/100.00037925 or https://www.mrt.tas.gov.au/webdoc2/app/default/document_domrept_detail?id=115522) and field operations report available via the MRT Catalogue (https://www.mrt.tas.gov.au/webdoc2/app/default/document_domrept_detail?id=119226). Processing of the packed raw time series archive data (https://dx.doi.org/10.25914/m8bb-xx89) into Level 0 products was completed by Dr Nigel Rees at NCI Australia.Created: 24 07 2023
