The Museum of Ancient Cultures at Macquarie University, Sydney, holds some 700 papyri, mainly in Greek, but also in other languages and scripts, such as Demotic and Coptic (Egyptian). Most are written on papyrus, but the collection also includes some texts on ostraca (potsherd), parchment, and wood. The collection includes 24 literary texts of various genres, both Christian and classical, written in Greek and Coptic, on papyrus and parchment. These come from Egypt and date to the Ptolemaic, Roman, Late Roman, and Early Islamic period.
