The Lawrence Percival Coombes Guide to Records documents and contextualises the records of Lawrence Percival Coombes, the first Director of the Aeronautical Research Laboratory. Amongst the collection documented by the Guide are financial records, diaries, publications, personal papers, and files relating to the Aeronautical Research Laboratory (ARL). The collection consists of 415 inventory items, mostly paper format files, grouped into 16 series. The total collection occupies 543 linear cm of shelf space (or its equivalent). The Guide is the output of a research database. It was first produced in paper format by the Australian Science Archives Project (ASAP) in 1993. There have been three editions of the Guide published online, firstly by ASAP in the late 1990s, then by the Australian Science and Technology Heritage Centre in 2004, and most recently by the eScholarship Research Centre in 2008. The records are held by the State Library of Victoria (MS 13357). The collection was listed by Rod Buchanan, Mandy Johnson, Ann McCarthy, Gavan McCarthy, Lisa O'Sullivan, Mark Scillio and Angela Taylor.
